PROGRAMS

Our volunteer John from Seeds of Self Reliance alongside local farmer "monchito"

As The Emancipation Project (TEP) uses its programs to bring the children off the streets, it recognizes the impact this will have on the family’s overall economic condition.  Therefore, TEP will use its resources to find ways to minimize or mitigate the loss of revenue often brought in by the children.

This will be accomplished through:

  • Food Sovereignty
  • Entrepreneurial opportunities
  • Life skills trainings

Since its founding in July of 2009, TEP has been developing relationships necessary to better understand the issues related to poverty, education, and economic needs of the disadvantaged in the Dominican Republic.

Roberto Romen Peguero and Jean Carlos Morillo Montero from Villa Liberacion, spend their days cleaning windshields to make money in order to eat.

EDUCATION

Over the next decade, TEP will develop the programs and resources necessary to provide impoverished children educational opportunities.

By the end of the decade, The Emancipation Project will establish a prep school.

Prior to that TEP will form relationships with backyard schools and support the teachers in providing the educational resources and experiences which will enable students to enter public or private schools.

Backyard school in Mendoza, Santo Domingo - "Creyendo en Jesus"

Earlier this year we reached out to three backyard schools located in Mendoza, Santo Domingo Este.
In August TEP provided uniforms, school shoes, backpacks and school supplies for over 130 children at those schools.

FOOD SOVEREIGNTY
Farmers in Gaspar Hernandez, along with land donor Mr. Antonio Alvarez (third front right), sponsor Kenyatta Bell (back center) from Palo Vitality Tea, technical advisor John Hayden (third from left) founder of Seeds of Self Reliance along with volunteers of the same Peter (far left) and wife Meredith (far right) and Mercedes Casella (front center) from TEP.

Most recently TEP established relationships with a group of farmers in Gaspar Hernandez (Joba Arriba).
They will take part in our ONE SEED program.
This program will enable these farmers to utilize their skills to produce sufficient crops to maintain their families.
Additionally, it will train the community in sustainable agricultural methods and business concepts designed to yield sufficient crops for family and business opportunities.
